S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Proverbs 7:27
Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
O-bservation:
For most of this chapter, Solomon is teaching his son to avoid the prostitute’s temptations and her house. This has been said to be the oldest profession in world history. Yet, most of the male population in the world has been tempted, and many have failed. There is this innate thought pattern in men that thinks, “Other men have yielded to this temptation and gotten caught, but I know I will never be found out.” This temptation to yield to a prostitute, or to yield to adultery, or fornication, is never far from a man’s thoughts. When a man or woman fails in this temptation, I always think to myself, “Why Do They Think They Can Get Away With It?”
A-pplication:
Look at how Solomon wraps this chapter. He says, “Her (speaking of the prostitute) house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death!” Wow! As I read this passage this AM, I couldn’t help but think of friends of mine who, through the years, have yielded in this area of fornication and or adultery. Because my profession is that of a minister, a number of my friends around the world are also in the gospel ministry. There are so many sins and failures in this life, but this particular sin has been like a death chamber to a number of my minister friends through the years. They know the Word. They have counseled others who have failed in this sin. They’ve seen the devastation, yet they yield too. I’m always left with the thought, “Why Do They Think They Can Get Away With It?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m all but trembling as I write this short prayer. Keep me true, Lord Jesus, keep me true. There’s a race that I must run. There are victories to be won. Every hour by your power, keep me true! Amen
