When You Just Don’t Know

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

O-bservation:

Here St Paul writes that when it comes to knowing what to pray for, there are times in your prayer life, “When You Just Don’t Know.” I have faced prayer times like that on many occasions. I have felt a burden, but didn’t know what the burden was. Paul tells us that it’s in those times that Holy Spirit will help us to pray with wordless groans. In fact, the next verse says because he (the Holy Spirit) knows what the will of God is at that moment.

A-pplication:

Of course, as a Pentecostal, I’ve always believed that these wordless groans have to do with words we don’t understand that we pour out to God. During the season of Pentecost that we are all in as I write, this passage is meaningful to me. As I stated above, there have been so many times when I didn’t know what to pray for, but I had such a heavy burden I have knelt to pray. As I poured out my heart to the Lord in tongues (which I don’t understand the words I’m speaking but have the gift to speak those words), the burden began to lift, and victory took the place of the burden. Why? Because the Holy Spirit prayed through me the perfect will of God. That’s why the baptism of the Holy Spirit is so important to have especially, “When You Just Don’t Know,” how or what to pray for.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I thank you for the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gift to pray in my heavenly language even when I just don’t know what to pray for. In those times, as I prayed in my heavenly language, the burden has lifted and the victory has followed. Amen
