Why we give.
Your tithes and special offerings are a spiritual recommitment, acting on God’s goodness and accepting His will in your life, community, and family! We are called to give the first 10% back to God. This is one way we explicitly HONOR God, and He honors our generosity in return. Giving has always been tied to God’s financial blessings. Jesus, the highest authority in heaven and earth, tells us: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you” (Luke 6:38).
God also calls for special offerings throughout the year. We honor His commands at Trinity Church.
Heart for the House Offering
Passover and Pentecost Offerings
The three great pilgrimage feasts of Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles were times when all of the people of Israel were to appear in Jerusalem to meet with God. “Three times a year all your men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. No one should appear before the LORD empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you” (Deuteronomy 16:16–17). God intentionally reserved these times to meet with His people, commanding that they not appear empty-handed, but come in to His presence with gifts which would HONOR Him. We are still bound by this command today! We give these special offerings of our own free will, to HONOR God!
God provided a plan for the people of the ancient Hebrew world to act on their faith with obedience. The harvest season celebration included “personal atonement,” a time of “inward reflection to change course and move closer to God.” Part of that process of atonement included the individual expressing gratitude to God. Each individual brought their best offering to the altar, an offering above their weekly tithes. This special offering was a STEP OF FAITH.
We bring our offering, our step of faith, to the Lord’s House as our “Atonement Offering.” We want our spiritual growth to spread and grow! We want that growth to bless our church, our community, and everyone we come in contact with. In obedience to God’s Word, we bring our best offering to the Lord’s House, believing for a wonderful Harvest. This special offering will be designated to our “House” ministries, making sure we are able to provide the best for our Trinity Family and our community.
