Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.
O-bservation:
Solomon starts by saying that what we produce as Christ Followers is a tree of life. That is a metaphor that promotes the idea that we are “life givers” first. Then he tells us that the person who endeavors to save lives is actually rewarded by our Heavenly Father with WISDOM! The man or woman with true wisdom is full of discernment and knows what to do in any given situation. This is the key to “Becoming Wise.”
A-pplication:
As a young college student, this verse stuck out. I could never shake this verse as God’s word to me concerning my life. I watched friends who appeared to be knowledgeable at that time but would live in a way that drove people away from them. I wanted people in my life. And so, everywhere I went, I did my best to promote the “Good News.” In time I saw that a number of them became Christ Followers. The more I saw people come to Christ, the more doors of opportunity opened to me. There came a point where I had to decide which door to take. That’s when I needed WISDOM. Each door I took opened an even better path going forward. The more people followed Jesus, the more wisdom I had. That’s my own testimony on “Becoming Wise.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I am grateful to you today for highlighting this verse in my youth. The more I’ve kept this passage in the forefront of my life and mission, the more clear direction you have given me. I can never thank you enough! Amen
