What Should I Do When I’m Disturbed?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 43:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

O-bservation:

What a passage of scripture for such troubled times. As I write, the world still fears COVID-19. People are nowhere near back to fellowshipping in the local houses of worship as they once were before COVID. The Russian army has and is laying siege to the nation of Ukraine, and thousands have been killed. Watching this on our device outlets is beyond disturbing, and no one knows where it will all end. With these troubling issues at hand, one may ask, “What Should I Do When I Am Disturbed?”

A-pplication:

This was the same scenario King David talked about several times in the Psalms. Often, we hear him say, “Why are you so downcast, oh my soul?” Yet most all the time, David would quickly give his solution to his challenge as he does here. He said, “I put my hope in God, and I continue to praise my Savior and my God!” I think much of our sorrow and generally downcast way of looking at life is the unending volume of news that flows from the four corners of the earth twenty-four hours a day. And it’s rarely good news; it’s usually bad or disturbing news. Perhaps David had even more trouble not having the internet. I can imagine what his imagination of worry must have looked like. Think of the countless days he would wait for his scouts and spies to return home with news concerning his enemies. All the while, he was worrying. But then he would remember that his hope was in the Lord, and he praised his God. Let us, on this brand-new day, do the same.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Here I am, on this brand-new day, doing what I’ve learned to do in times of alarm. I am, again, putting all my hope in You. I will praise You, my God, today and every day! Amen
