S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Deuteronomy 23:15
If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.
O-bservation:
This was God’s mandate to his people, the Israelis, concerning someone’s slave who had escaped their boss. The Israeli was mandated by God not to send them back but to let them stay with them wherever they liked and not allow them to be oppressed any longer. In the Old Testament, the people of God were trained by the Lord that “We’re ALWAYS For The UNDERDOG!”
A-pplication:
It seems outlandish in the context in which you and I live today, even to entertain the word slave. Yet, that was a very real thing in both the Old and New Testament times. However, right here, we see that the Lord has always had a mind to help the UNDERDOG in any society. If we are to be helped by this passage this AM, it’s imperative that we acknowledge the fact that as Christians, “We Are ALWAYS For The UNDERDOG!” It’s not a matter of “Well, I don’t want to get my hands dirty. That looks like it could be a real burden if I get involved!” NO! We have no other option but to get our hands dirty. That person is standing in front of you, placed there by God for you to see what you should do for the one who is oppressed. It is a test, and you and I must not fail. We must pass this test because “We’re ALWAYS For The UNDERDOG!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I was awakened by this verse, and it made me tremble. I have no other option if I claim to be a Follower Of Jesus than to help the oppressed wherever and whenever I find them. I’m yours, Lord. Lead me today, I pray. Amen
