Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Galatians 6:2
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this was you will fulfill the law of Christ.
O-bservation:
St. Paul lays down the Christian’s new view of “burden-bearing.” There was, at this time, the law of Moses for all Jews to fulfill. But Paul calls the Church at Galatia, and thus the Church for all time, to bear another’s burdens. When we do, we will be fulfilling the “Law of Christ.” What is that law? It is the law of love. The law of Christ’s love goes to the point of dying for a friend if called on to do so.
A-pplication:
Here’s what Jesus said in John 15:12-13, “My command is this: Love each other, as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” You may be asking right now, “Are you serious?” The answer would be, “These are the words of Christ!” Burden bearing for the Follower Of Jesus always costs the burden-bearer something. It has to do with going out of one’s way to help. The help to be given would be helping someone who is hurting physically, mentally, or morally. What is it that I, as a brother in Christ, can do to bear my brother’s burden? Whatever it is, it will cost me something. However much it costs, this is my joy and calling, for I am under the law of Christ. You and I are blessed today to be able to say, “We Are Burden Bearers!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
It is my honor to bear my brother’s burdens. In so doing, I am fulfilling Your law of love. I don’t have to; I get to. Thank You for choosing me to be a burden-bearer! Amen
