The Power Of The Cross

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Corinthians 1:17

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

O-bservation:

In the very first chapter of the first letter to the young church at Corinth, St. Paul states the main reason why Christ sent him. He hadn’t come to make a name for himself or have the biggest numbers in his ministry or even preach something attractive and popular. NO! Jesus sent him to preach the gospel of the good news of Jesus. Paul said he didn’t have much wisdom and certainly not much eloquence, but that was because he didn’t want to take the people’s eyes off of the great sacrifice Jesus paid for their sins. His ministry, simply put, would be all about “The Power Of The Cross.”

A-pplication:

What is it that has had the greatest impact on the world in this present age? It is “The Power Of The Cross!” Those who claim Christ worldwide number over two billion people and that number is rising every day. What is it that is so appealing to the common person? Is it the uniqueness with which some Christians can present the gospel? Is it the fact that Jesus seemed truly human and now, two thousand years removed, is definitely more God-like than in His day? In my humble estimation, it’s all about the story. It’s all about the gift of Jesus to this world. Most of all, it’s about His willingness to die on a cross in shame to atone for our sins. Yes, that’s it. It’s because of “The Power Of The Cross!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m so grateful for the cross! As I look towards Passover, just a few weeks away, I’m reminded once again of your loving sacrifice. I’m reminded once again of “The Power Of The Cross!” Amen
