The Valley Of Vision

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Isaiah 22:1
A prophecy against the Valley of Vision: What troubles you now, that you have all gone up on the roofs?

O-bservation:

This is an unusual passage inasmuch as Jerusalem is built on a hill. Everyone from outside the walls of Jerusalem had to “Go Up,” to Jerusalem. But within the city of Jerusalem was a low place that historians tell us was near what was called “The Trolls.” It had the feel of a valley. It’s where many of the prophets lived. Because it was a valley, it was called “The Valley Of Vision,” because you could look up from this low place and see what others couldn’t. But in this case, Hosea knew that a foreign (most likely the Assyrians) army was preparing to lay a siege on Jerusalem. Instead of the people of Israel kneeling in sackcloth and ashes and weeping and asking God for help, they instead were, partying in wild revelry. (Vs 12,13) It was as if they knew they were going to die, so their thoughts must have been, let’s go out with a bang.

A-pplication:

Who are you in this story? Do you live the life of the man or woman of God who, because of your position, you can see what others can’t see? Or are you the one that sees there is no hope for you, and so you speak, and live as if there’s no reason to cry out to God because you’re going to lose anyway? Hosea would have been in the first crowd. He was in “The Valley Of Vision,” where he knew what was coming from the outside, but his view was of crazy people who had seen the enemy and had forgotten they had a God who loved them. They had forgotten that if they had repented and cried to him, he would have surely turned back the enemy. So Hosea was not afraid. His view was a view with a vision for the future, not the end. Sometimes it’s better to get off of the rooftops and down low in “The Valley Of Vision,” where you can really see what’s happening and fear no one but your God, Jehovah!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This morning from my own “Valley of Vision,” I have nothing and no one to fear but you, Lord. You are and have always been my God. Because of that, I’ll stick with a vision of you all day long! Amen
