Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Timothy 1:17
Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen
O-bservation:
As a young man during the “Jesus Movement,” this verse was turned into a worship chorus that we would sing over and over. It’s the closing to the opening chapter of St Paul’s first letter to his understudy Timothy. He has lots to say to the young man in these two letters, but for now, he reminds Timothy that their KING is eternal and is immortal and is invisible and that he is “The Only God.”
A-pplication:
As I read this passage this AM, I was thinking of all the gods out there that, by the power of Satan, beg for our attention. These are all gods that appear alive and fully appealing. Here are just some of these inanimate beggars that grip so many in bondage. Drugs, alcohol, illicit sex, LGBTQ, sex trafficking, the love of money, and rebellion. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I can honestly tell you that not one person that I’ve known in my life has ever served one of these non-speaking, non-hearing, or non-living gods that have EVER BEEN BETTER OFF for having been a slave to any of them. NO! In fact, they have to break free from these devil-inspired dead gods and find Jesus in order to have real life! Why do I say that? First, I say that because IT’S TRUE! The second reason I say that is because “The Only God,” of the ages is Jehovah, and he is alive, and he transcends life itself, and he is ready to receive you into his arms of love if you believe him today.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, as always, I acknowledge you as “The Only God.” There are other appealing dead entities that are powered by hell but have no ability to produce real abundant life. Instead, they kill, steal and destroy. I’m yours and only yours. Amen
