Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Colossians 4:5
Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
O-bservation:
When you read this passage out of context, you might think it’s a clandestine encoded message from a nation’s intelligence agency to one of their operatives in a foreign country. And it is. That may sound shocking, but when it was written by the Apostle Paul over 2000 years ago, he was writing to a little gathering of people called the New Testament Church in Colossae. What was encoded was the fact that they were actually citizens of heaven, and they needed to use wisdom in order to attract more followers to change their citizenship and allegiance from earth to heaven.
A-pplication:
The “OUTSIDERS” that Paul writes to in this passage are the people in Colossae who were potential converts to the Christian faith. I’m not sure Paul thought that, this letter to the small church in Colossae would last through time and be read by millions, and one day sees a third of the planet follow Jesus. But that is where it stands as I write today. It’s obvious that the original recipients of this letter took this truth to heart and spread the truth to others. What was the original truth and directive that would, in time attract so many “OUTSIDERS” to one day follow Christ? The truth was that real Christ Followers need to truly “Be Wise,” when reaching “OUTSIDERS,” with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me to “Be Wise,” as I reach to people who really need you. I don’t want to do dumb things that turn people away from eternal life. Amen
