The Lioness Cried

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 19:1-2
“Take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel 2 and say: “‘What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay down among them and reared her cubs.

O-bservation:

This whole chapter of Ezekiel 19 is a lament or a cry over the young princes of Israel. Yet, when the prophet speaks of Israel, he’s really speaking of the nation of Judah at that time or the Jewish nation. The lioness in this chapter is Judah, the Jewish nation. The young princes are the kings that followed Josiah, who was the last righteous king to rule in Jerusalem before King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took them all as exiles to Babylon. The young princes were the following; Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. All of them were just bad. And that’s why “The Lioness Cried.”

A-pplication:

This is a sad sad story. The question that comes from this ancient lament is simply, if the lioness in this chapter is crying, then is my nation the lioness, and is my nation crying today? Certainly, America unlike Israel is not God’s chosen people. Yet historically we have been known as a strong Judeo-Christian nation. But today our hidden sins as a people have become known to the entire world. Where we were once adored we are now scorned, and who is crying now? Better yet are we crying for our sins? It doesn’t appear that there is much crying at all. One group is saying, there’s nothing good about this country and another group says we can be great again. However, there is no greatness without total repentance. There is no hope outside of Jesus. In Ezekiel’s day “The Lioness Cried,” but whose crying now?

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m sending up a lament, a cry for America this AM. There’s no more that can be done for a nation that won’t come clean with her Maker. Please, Lord rend the heavens and come down. Amen
