The Gutless Governor

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 18:38

“What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

O-bservation:

While Jesus was responding to Pilate’s questions, He concluded by saying, “Anyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.” Pilate (the Roman governor of Judaea) balked at that and said in frustration, “What is truth?” Then, he stormed out of the room and spoke to the Jews, and said, “I find no fault in this man.” He should be called “The Gutless Governor” because instead of ruling on Jesus himself, he let the powerless Jews do it, and they said, “Crucify Him!”

A-pplication:

People who operate in any leadership role must do so with the people’s best interest at heart. Whenever leaders submit to an immoral, unethical, or illegal act to please people, they have moved into the world of “Gutless Leadership.” Jewish leaders were falsely accusing Jesus, and the matter was brought to the Roman Governor, Pilate, for a decision. He decided for himself that Jesus was guilty of nothing but did not have the “GUTS” to make his will stick. Instead, he feared that the Jews would riot, and he would then be held accountable by the Roman Caesar. So he turned the decision over to people who were powerless Roman subjects. The leaders of this group, not the commoners of their day, insisted that Jesus be crucified. We’re living in a day where true moral character must rise up in the hearts of men and women, some of whom are leaders and others who are ordinary Followers of Jesus, and they must do what is right, instead of what is convenient!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m asking this AM for the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing no matter the cost. I know that this is what YOU would do. Amen
