S-cripture:
Jeremiah 19:5
They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal – something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.
O-bservation:
These are the words of the Lord to Jeremiah about his coming destruction of Judah. His people had so turned their backs on the Lord that they had burned their children in the fire to the god of Baal, as an offering to get his attention. The problem was that Baal himself was man-made so that he could not answer them. All of their sins had resulted in them giving their whole lives to a god of wood and stone. God said, “I never commanded you to do this and it NEVER ENTERED MY MIND!”
A-pplication:
It seems that the end of a society becomes apparent when that society is willing to sacrifice their own children in death to a god that cannot hear them. In the case of Judah, they were burning their children in the fire to their god Baal. In the case of my country, we have aborted our children to the tune of over sixty-three million babies in the womb over a fifty-year period of time to the god of Lust. That’s right. Baal could not hear them, and Lust cannot hear us. Let’s leave Baal and stay with Lust for a minute. It’s one thing for a child to be aborted when the mothers life is at stake because there would be no mom to raise the child. Yet, to abort a child because a couple wanted the pleasure from the god of Lust for a moment, but not the responsibility of raising the child they produced, is an abomination. Recently our Supreme Court has endeavored to right the wrongs of abortion as a means of birth control. However, it has thrown a rebellious nation into an uproar. These two stories are bringing a fresh look at, “The god of Baal And The god of Lust,” but the truth is, they are one and the same.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m sorry this AM for what my country has done through the years in regards to worshipping at the feet of the god of Lust. It has cost us dearly. Please give us more time to right these wrongs before your hand of judgement is unleashed. Amen
