That Heart Of Mine

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

O-bservation:

Here the prophet Jeremiah speaks of a man’s heart. He tells us that the heart of a person (spiritually speaking) is “desperately wicked,” in one translation, which literally means “mortally sick.” In the natural, there is no hope because he lacks control of his choices. The prophet asked the question, “Who can understand the heart?” St. Paul said, “I can’t understand myself. The good I want to do I don’t do. And what I hate, I do?” (Romans 7:15, my paraphrase)

A-pplication:

Here’s the hard part. This truth is not just the truth about terrible wicked men and women. Oh No! This verse is for you and me too! Yes, it’s true we can be full of Jesus one day and ready to kill somebody the next day unless we guard this heart of ours. In fact, the scripture states concerning this matter, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life!” (Prov. 4:23) The heart of a man or woman is the place in one’s life where one’s decisions are made. How many times as a Jesus Follower have you done something dumb and sat back and shook your head and thought, “My My My, ‘This Heart Of Mine!” You and me both have said it many times because if we don’t guard our heart, quickly it will become, “mortally sick” again.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Oh, what can be done for “This Heart Of Mine?” I need you more than ever. Please, Jesus, help me as never before to guard my heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Amen
