Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 12:31
But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
O-bservation:
When speaking with his disciples, Jesus admonished his followers to “Stay With What Matters The Most.” Of course, Jesus was speaking of the Kingdom of God and pursuing it with all of our hearts. He promised that every necessary need in our life would be taken care of, but our command is to, first of all, seek for the Kingdom of God.
A-pplication:
I know that when people ask me, “What’s the most important thing in your life, Rich” I don’t immediately think, “THE KINGDOM OF GOD!” Usually, I think that my family, or paying my bills, or leading the church I pastor, or taking care of my aging mother, or
who will take care of my son Graham when I’m gone is the most important thing in my life. But, Jesus said, “If you will “Stay With What Matters Most,” seeking the Kingdom of God, ALL OF THESE OTHER THINGS WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF!” Now that’s my paraphrase, but that’s what Jesus said. Why is it that I, a gospel minister, have such a hard time remembering this simple Jesus principle? I think it’s because we often look at the simple words of Jesus and say, “That’s too simple.” But everything Jesus said is simple; it’s just HARD TO DO! When you and I “Stay With What Matters The Most,” every minute of the day, EVERYTHING ELSE IN OUR LIVES WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF BY JESUS! It may be hard to do, but the payoff is astounding.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m asking you to help me to keep the main thing, the main thing! I know that if I “Stay With What Matters The Most,” you will take care of the rest. Amen
