Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 23:14
They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, “We have taken a solemn oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.”
O-bservation:
While on his way to Rome, Paul created such a stir in Jerusalem in his defense of the gospel that over forty men conspired to kill him. This passage says they went to the chief priests and elders and said, “We have taken an oath not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.”
A-pplication:
When I think of the ease with which we here in the West, particularly the United States, live these kinds of New Testament stories, it leaves me embarrassed at what we call suffering. We talk about how hard we have it and how we are being treated politically, and that it’s just not fair. But I want to ask, “Are the followers of Jesus here in my country worried about imprisonment and beatings and being stoned to death?” This was normal church activity for the New Testament Early Church leaders. And these kinds of things carried on for centuries against the Christian faith. I believe our Lord is calling us to get ready. Truly, serving Jesus is, “No Easy Task!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m asking this AM that You help me strengthen my faith. I can’t help but think of my brothers and sisters in other parts of the world who live constantly concerned for their very lives. Like never before, I’m aware that serving you is “No Easy Task!” Amen
