Never Settle For Second Best

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 11:31

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

O-bservation:

This story occurred while Abram’s (aka Abraham’s) father Terah was still alive. It’s not as if Abram had a choice in the matter, for in those days, the Patriarch of the family made those kinds of decisions. The scripture says they set out for Canaan, but they settled in Harran. It may have been a nice place to live, but their initial plan wasn’t to stay there. The next verse says that Terah died in Harran.

A-pplication:

I’m not saying this is what happened, and no one will ever know, but here’s a thought. Could it be that Terah got sick and died in Harran because he settled for second best? How many times have you known somebody who had a dream but never reached that goal, and the discouragement and despair and depression claimed their lives in time? I’ve known at least five people in my lifetime that such a situation ended up killing them. God spoke to Abram and told him that He had a massive plan for Abram’s life. Abram would need to move to a land God would give him, and God would give him a people from his lineage that would shape the world. Abram was listening. Abram was able to accomplish what his father couldn’t do, and the rest is history. “Never Settle For Second Best!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today, I’m giving You praise because you have given me a vision in life, and You have enabled me to accomplish that vision. Certainly, there is so much more. And I’ll not stop until it happens. But, with Your help, I’ll never settle for second best. Amen
