Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Genesis 13:14
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.”
O-bservation:
This verse follows Abram’s separation from his nephew, Lot. Abram had taken his nephew out of Harran with him out of the goodness of his heart when Abram’s father, Terah, passed away. He had already been called of God and had heard God promise to make of him a great nation. But still, Lot had nowhere to go once Abram left for Canaan’s land. So Abram took Lot with him. But Lot created problems for his Uncle Abram to the point that his men began to war with Abram’s men. Abram finally said, “You take the land of your choosing, and I’ll take what’s left.” Lot chose Sodom and Gomorrah, and Abram took the leftovers. Lot was nothing more than “Dead Weight” to his uncle. Once the “Dead Weight” was gone, the Lord began to speak to Abram again about his future.
A-pplication:
Today happens to be my anniversary to the lovely Robyn! We’ve been talking about what we need to keep, and what is “Dead Weight” that needs to go to Goodwill, and who to empower moving forward in this new year. Sometimes, if we’re not careful, we’re packing things and people along on the journey with us that don’t bring much to the table. Instead of building your life, they’re actually “Dead Weight!” If you are willing to lose the “Dead Weight” in your life, I predict you’ll begin to hear from the Lord again. Just like Abram did.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for helping me through the years with people who have bought into the mission you’ve given me. Without that, there’s no way we could have built anything we have for Your glory. Thank You that the “Dead Weight” from yesterday is no longer dragging us down. Now, if I could just work on my closet! Amen
