S-cripture:

Judges 12:14

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. He led Israel eight years.

O-bservation:

This is the story of a minor judge of Israel named Abdon. He lived an honorable life and prospered in a great way. Whatever he had done to achieve such leadership and wealth management prepared him to lead God’s people for eight years until his death. He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on donkeys. Donkeys in that day were a sign of great wealth. He not only had his whole family all living, leading, and loving with him together, he also maintained peace in Israel for eight years!

A-pplication:

If ever there was a man who personified the moniker “Living Your Best Life Now,” it would have to be Abdon. What could be better than to have a big family that loves, lives, and leads together? For eight years, the people of Israel had an unusual family to look to and see how it was done. The only sad part of this story is that eventually, Abdon died. We never hear of him or his forty sons or thirty grandsons again. None of us are assured of a fabulous legacy, but each and every one of us has the chance to give Jesus everything we’ve got. And then, like Abdon, we will move on to heaven. But not until our closest friend says He was always, “Living His Best Life Now!”

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for the opportunity to live and lead and love with my own family through the years. Help me to always “Live My Best Life Now.” Amen
