Keep Your Clothes On And Your Hands Out Of The Offering Plate

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Chronicles 26:20

Their fellow Levites were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries for the dedicated things.

O-bservation:

In the Old Testament, the tribe of Levi was the tribe that housed all things having to do with the priestly duties of the other eleven tribes of Israel. From the Levite clan, there was a group of men who handled all of the treasuries of Israel and all of the dedicated things unto the Lord. These men lived under strict scrutiny within their own tribe as well as the other tribes of Israel. No one was stealing anything because of all the checks and balances of that day. Did some fail? I’m sure they did, but that is not what the nation of Israel was known for through the ages.

A-pplication:

Years ago, a good friend of mine was the youth pastor at our church in Tacoma, Washington. He’s a wonderful friend of mine to this day and a leading pastor in the Bay Area of California. Back then, we were all young, and my father-in-law pastored the church. My mother-in-law’s office was right next to his, and one day this young youth pastor stopped in at her door and said, “Mrs Buntain, I’d there any advice you give me as a young pastor?” Immediately my mother n law said, “Yes! Keep your clothes on and your hands out of the offering plate!” My mother-in-law was never long on words, but we knew what she meant. Live by the word of God’s strict moral code and let others handle the money. We all died laughing when we heard her say it. Because she was right. Both my friend and I have lives just what mom taught us that day, while we’ve watched others fall because of money and women. The message we preach is even more impactful when it’s delivered by men and women who practice what they preach.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Today once again, I’m asking that you help me live a life that is worthy of the calling you placed upon me so many years ago. As for me, I’m still saying YES to your call. Amen.
