Jesus, Our High Priest

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Hebrews 8:1

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.

O-bservation:

In the previous chapter, the writer discussed that “Jesus, Our High Priest,” is a priest in the order of Melchizedek. Melchizedek was the first priest to the Lord most High, and he had no family or genealogy or beginning or end of his earthly life that we know of. However, we know of him from Genesis 14, when Abram returned from a victorious battle. Abram gave a tenth of all the plunder to the King of Salem, also the Melchizedek, the priest unto God who blessed Abram.

A-pplication:

Remember that if Melchizedek’s priesthood were perfect, we would not need another high priest. But Melchizedek represented the imperfect law of the Old Testament, and as we know, that law wasn’t working. Melchizedek and every earthly priest after him had to offer burnt offerings to the Lord for his sins and the sins of the people. However, when “Jesus, Our High Priest” came, He made an offering of Himself for the sins of humankind. Making His sacrifice the ultimate, once and for all sacrificial offering for humankind. The New Testament law is ruled by the Grace of God, made possible by the death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. Thank God we need no other priest than Jesus, for He is, “Jesus, Our High Priest!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

How very grateful I am this AM for Your sacrifice. Because You gave Yourself for me, I am able to give myself to You completely. I am Yours, free from sin’s transgressions and commissioned by You to go into all the world and preach the gospel! Amen
