S-cripture:
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a pure heart, Oh God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
O-bservation:
It’s through historical consensus that we all believe this is part of the prayer David prayed after his adulterous activity with the woman known as Bathsheba. The prophet Nathan had come to him and called him out, and David yielded to the truth and repented of his sin before God. What he wanted was a clean and pure heart. What he was actually saying when it came to his need of a pure heart was simply, “Jesus It’s Not There Yet, So Please Make It Happen!”
A-pplication:
King David was a lot of different giftings in one man. He could sing and play instruments and design buildings and fight and love and preach and lead and win battles and kill giants and on and on. But one thing he could not do is to create a clean heart wishing himself. He knew his heart was dirty and that he needed help but couldn’t help himself. He knew his only help and hope was his Heavenly Father. Shortly after making this cry unto the Lord, he prayed this prayer. He desperately needed a clean heart. He prayed to the Lord and said, “Create in me a pure heart, O God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” He knew he didn’t have one, and he also knew he couldn’t make it happen. So. What he was really saying was, “Jesus, It’s Not there Yet, So Please Make It Happen!” Guess What? God answered his prayer.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus.
I have so many friends who need to pray this prayer. As you know, through the years, I’ve prayed this prayer over and over, wanting to cleanse for my wicked ways. You’ve always been there for me, and now I’m asking one more time, “Take all of this sin out of my heart and create a pure heart in its place oh Lord!” Amen
