Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Joshua 2:24
They said to Joshua, “The Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us.”
O-bservation:
Let’s back up about forty years before, when Moses, fresh out of Egypt, sent the twelve spies into Jericho to spy out the land of promise. When they came back, ten of the twelve brought a bad report saying, “There are giants in the land, and we looked like grasshoppers in their sight!” Now that whole generation had died off, including Moses, save Joshua and Caleb, the two who brought back a good report the first time. Joshua sent a few men in to spy out the same territory again. When they got back, they told Joshua, “God has surely given the entire land to us, and all of the people there are melting and full of fear because they know we’re coming.
A-pplication:
You may already know the story, but just like the younger spies reported to
Joshua, the Israelites did conquer the land. What changed? I believe the new generation had decided to change their minds about the Lord. Their parents had decided to trust ten negative spies instead of the God who had split the Red Sea for them to cross. They had watched God destroy the Egyptians’ army by way of an earth-shaking miracle, but they didn’t believe God would be strong enough to help them overtake the giants in Jericho. But when their offspring got their chance, they moved into Jericho and conquered it, and there was NO mention of GIANTS at all. What does that tell you? “It’s What You Believe Will Happen That Usually Happens!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I choose to believe the good report, not the negative report, if You’re a part of the good report. I’ll always choose YOU! Amen
