Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Joshua 4:21-22
He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’”
O-bservation:
Joshua had seen the miracle of the Jordon River split so the people could walk across on dry ground. He asked 12 of his best men to go into the Jordon, which remained separated, and pull up 12 large stones. He had them placed in Gilgal and told the Israeli people that whenever their children asked them, “Why are these stones here?” they were to tell their children this story throughout history.
A-pplication:
Children are all about stories. I’ve got news for you. Moms and dads love stories too. Did I mention grandparents and really, really old folks love stories too? Everyone, it seems, loves a good story. Yet this story had a deeper meaning. God wanted these stones to be a reminder of what He had done for His Israeli people through the ages. They would all know that He had split the Red Sea for Moses so the people of Israel could exit Egypt, but He wanted a story told about the smaller Jordon being split for Joshua. He wanted the children to know that He would do anything they needed, whenever they needed it done, if they would ask Him. And what better way to learn from that truth than through a story. Why? Because “Everyone Needs A Good Story From Time To Time.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for this wonderful story this AM to remind me that You will always help me no matter when I ask or how difficult the task. Your stories build my faith! Amen
