Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Micah 7:8
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.
O-bservation:
This is a very unique passage of scripture. The reason I say that is because in the previous chapter, the prophet Micah spoke for God and prophesied that God was lodging a charge against the sins of Israel. But now, in this chapter, the prophet Micah also speaks about Israel’s response to God’s accusations and to her enemies, most likely Babylon and Edom. “Don’t even think about gloating over me. Yes, I have failed, and I have fallen but soon, “I Will Rise!” Israel further responded by saying, “I’m presently sitting in darkness, but the Lord will be my light.”
A-pplication:
Micah continued to speak for Israel and give praise to the Lord, and also prayed to God. I think it’s very appropriate here to say that there will be times when you and I have gone off the rails, so to speak, or certainly failed the Lord in some way. It’s in those times that instead of running for the closest and sulking like a little child would do, that we instead would find the courage to lift our chin and throw our shoulders back and, in faith, say, “I Will Rise! Not in an arrogant way, but in a faith-filled way, knowing that our God is a loving and forgiving Lord. The temptation is always to give up and say, “That’s it! I’m sure it’s over. How in the world can God keep forgiving me for this kind of failure?” But it was Jeremiah who said, “His mercies are new every morning.” He’s never going to stop loving you and me! His desire is to forgive because he wants you and me to forgive as well. So this AM, get up and get out of that, “I’ve messed up again” mode and say with me. “I Will Rise!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m so glad you are the lover of my soul. I’m thankful that it is in the deep of your heart where your desire to forgive really comes from. I know I’ve asked you a million times to forgive me. But this AM I’m also ready to say right here and right now along with my friend who is reading this, that with your help….” I Will Rise!” Amen
