Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Peter 4:14
If you are insulted, because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
O-bservation:
Here St Peter reminded all “Followers Of Jesus,” that when we are insulted because we are Christian, we will be blessed. The reason is because it brings us the spirit of glory, and of course, God’s Spirit as well rests upon us.
A-pplication:
This word glory has an original rendering of “The weight one carries.” I’m speaking of the weight of influence. So as we suffer ridicule for our faith in Jesus, our weight of influence with those around us will grow. Also, any suffering for Jesus brings God’s Spirit to rest upon us as well. Recently my wife and I traveled again to the city of Rome, where Paul and Peter both were martyred for their faith. Certainly, there was much suffering leading up to such events, yet here Peter had become so well-versed in the pain of suffering that for him, he knew his influence would, in time, help bring the gospel to the whole world. After Pentecost, his whole approach to his faith was. “Bring On The Insults”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I have a desire to pay whatever price you’re asking me to pay in order to see the gospel move forward. If it helps this AM, I say, “Bring On The Insults.” Amen
