Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Genesis 37:19
“Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other.
O-bservation:
Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son, had a dream one night and told his brothers and father that he had dreamed that one day they would all bow down to him. Of course, they scoffed and were very upset that the young man would make such a boast. It helped turn Jacob’s brothers against him so that they wanted him dead. Their response to even seeing him was one of hatred. However, they had not taken into account that perhaps Jacob had indeed received a vision from the Lord.
A-pplication:
When I read this passage and what Joseph’s brothers said, my first thought is always, “Bite Your Tongue!” That’s right! We are often way too quick to pass judgment. Yes, it’s true Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son, and that’s never a good thing for a father to put on one child. And yes, it’s true Joseph was young and excited for the dream he’d had, but he wasn’t wise enough to keep it to himself. The deck was stacked in his brothers’ favor when they made the call that little brother was a “Big Time Dreamer.” But their judgment went too far when they sold him into slavery. In time, their little brother rose from prison to the second position of authority in all of Egypt! And yes, one day, unbeknownst to them, the brothers found themselves bowing in honor to the Egyptian ruler (their brother Joseph). So remember to “Bite Your Tongue” before you pass judgment.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for giving me chance after chance instead of judging me after every mistake. Help me do that for others I meet. I have my tongue stuck between my teeth right now as I’m praying! Amen
