S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 19:19
A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.
O-bservation:
St. Paul had been preaching and teaching in the Greek city of Ephesus for two years. At one point, such a miraculous revival took place that the conviction of the Holy Spirit led the people who were into witchcraft to bring their scrolls filled with sorcery prescriptions to be burned at the city square. What was burned was said to be worth fifty thousand drachmas!
A-pplication:
A drachma in that day was worth “A Day’s Wages” for one working person. So if you put fifty thousand drachmas together, it would be worth 10 men’s wages for 14 years of daily work!! At today’s proposed minimum wage of $15 an hour, a person’s wages are about $125 a day. So that would mean at today’s proposed minimum wage rate, approximately 6.2 million dollars of sorcery-related books were burned that day! Another word for what happened that day would be CONVICTION. When real CONVICTION from heaven comes on a man or woman, money doesn’t mean as much. Old gods mean nothing anymore. Most of all, a man or woman would be willing to sacrifice much more than “A Day’s Wages” to be living under a heavenly conviction that in time becomes a heaven on earth when it’s experienced.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I love you, and I need you this AM now more than ever. I need you in every detail of my life. My life with you is untouchable and not for sale. Least of all for “A Day’s Wages.” Amen
