Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
O-bservation:
This is a chapter that St Paul used to decry the activities of phony preachers and teachers of the gospel. He told the Church at Corinth that he and his workers never came to their city for pay but only to bring the gospel of Jesus. He said to them that he and his associates had laid down the truth of the gospel. But now, they had been deceived by listening to these other hypocrites. Paul said, “But of course this has happened. Even the devil masquerades as if he is an angel of light.” So here, the enemy’s phony preachers are just emulating what their master, the devil does. Which begs the question, “Who’s Fooling Who?”
A-pplication:
Never let the enemy deceive you out of believing what you have been raised to believe as a bible- believing grace-filled Christian. When you see things that are out of the ordinary and not biblically based, don’t de fooled. How many times have you heard of something new that was getting everyone’s attention in your area? But then, several years later, the big new thing all of a sudden crumbled. What happened? What happened is that most things that go up quickly in the work of the Lord are unable to maintain their unusual growth over the long haul. These words of St Paul to the Colossians are appropriate here. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces, of this world other than Christ.” (Col. 2:6-8) Remember, don’t be fooled!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I thank you this AM that my upbringing kept me on the straight and narrow theologically and helped me not to be fooled. Thank you, Lord, for a good solid bible education. And while I continue to work on it, I’m asking you to help me continue to be rooted and grounded in you! Amen
