Who Did They Think They Were?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 6:11
But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law or furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

O-bservation:

This passage of scripture took place at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. He hadn’t even anointed his disciples in an official capacity yet. As the story goes, Jesus healed a man with a withered hand in front of the very eyes of the Pharisees and religious teachers of the law. Yet, he accomplished this feat on the sabbath, which was unlawful in the eyes of these religious men. Because Jesus looked so great at the moment to those looking on, and the religious leaders looked so small and incapable of such miraculous works, the religious men began discussing what they might do to Jesus. Obviously, they were jealous.

A-pplication:

“Who Did They Think They Were?” Certainly, they had a position of authority within the Jewish religious tradition, but did this give them a moral, legal, or ethical right to plot Jesus’ DEATH? When people or an individual begin to think they are so important that they can transgress morality, they become capable of anything. We see the news all around us, and to be honest, there are leaders even today on both sides of politics that, for some reason, believe they are above the established laws of the land. Jesus never put himself ahead of others. He said in this chapter that he was the Lord of the Sabbath, and we know it to be true. His motivation was people. His motivation was never popularity or anything having to do with his own agenda as much as just serving people. When you compare the life of the living Son of God to the religious leaders in this story, you can only come away with this question, “Who Did They Think They Were?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

May I endeavor to walk as humbly as you walked while on earth. May all personal agendas be laid aside so that I may win souls for you. Amen
