Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 3:21
When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
O-bservation:
This is the story of Jesus’ first few months of his ministry. He had chosen his 12 disciples, and the word had gotten out about him and what he was doing. He had just entered a friend’s house, and his disciples couldn’t even eat because the crowds were gathered. This was probably, in a small way, beginning to appear to be that of a modern-day rock star. Obviously, his mother and brothers didn’t totally realize what was going on and had probably received some bad information. Whatever they had heard, they were headed in his direction because they said, including his mother, “He is out of his mind!”
A-pplication:
In verse 31, the Bible tells us that his mom and brothers eventually arrived at the place where all of the action was occurring. Certainly, things worked out, and his mother and brothers all followed him. Yet here, at this moment, his own mother had said he was not in his right mind. There will be times in this Christian walk when the course Jesus leads us on becomes a major question mark, not just in your friends’ minds but even in the lives of your family members. “When Your Mom Calls You Crazy,” what do you do? Do what Jesus did. He “STAYED THE COURSE!” He didn’t yell at his family. Instead, he maintained his own character and persona so that in time they knew that he had not wavered in the least. Remember your words and your faithfulness to your words are always your best defense, even “When Your Mom Calls You Crazy!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, help me STAY on an even keel. I don’t want to be a nut in the final analysis in the minds of people. On the other hand, if you’re asking me to do something that will end up causing me to be misunderstood, I’m more than willing to be your servant. No matter what mom may even say. Amen
