Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 118:13
I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me.
O-bservation:
It’s all but impossible to correctly call who it was that pushed back on David to the point that he was about to be destroyed, but many believe he was speaking of King Saul here. Remember how Saul threw a javelin at David while he played on the harp to soothe the King. Remember how he set out over and over to kill David and chased him incessantly in order to do away with him to no avail. In fact, twice David could have killed Saul but said, “How could I do such a thing and touch God’s anointed?” It often looked bleak for young David, but David said, “The Lord Helped Me!”
A-pplication:
This entire chapter is a praise unto the Lord for his salvation in every way in King David’s life. There’s little doubt that David is at peace as he offers this praise unto the Lord while looking back over his life. Sometimes we look back over our lives and have a tendency, if we’re not careful, to recall the bad times. But what do we do with those bad times? David recalled them and actually said, “That Was Then, This Is Now!” That’s what I believe. With God’s help, he was still thriving and giving God praise and prospering all the while. To be honest, that’s where I am as I write! I can think back to LOTS of bad times where it looked like it was over for me, but the Lord helped me. I almost lost but not anymore. I’m glad I can tell you, “That Was Then, This Is Now!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I have that old song going through my head and heart, “We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. Trusting in his holy word. He’s never failed me yet.” I’m glad I can sing that sing as my testimony! Amen
