S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Mark 4:19
But the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
O-bservation:
Jesus described the person who receives the Word of God. But because of their present living situation and the worries of the day, the word of God gets choked out of their hearts and minds and becomes unproductive in their living experience.
A-pplication:
“Russia’s Back And You May Feel Like You’re Choking!” I say that because people my age living in South Florida remember the Russian embargo of Cuba. The Soviet Union had placed a blockade around the small country and had missiles on their navy ships pointed right at our southeast border. I remember elementary school drills where we would hide in bomb shelters. For me, as a little boy, my mother would station me next to the radio to wait and see if their army would attack us or not. Thankfully, everything calmed down. That was more than sixty years ago, and we learned yesterday that Russia invaded Ukraine. I have such wonderful friends on each side of the border that it’s difficult to make sense of it all. But it reminds me of this passage of scripture. Presently, many people are so overwhelmed with the worries of this present day that the Word of God has gotten choked out of their lives. In fact, the Word of God is the answer for these troubled times. Please stay with the Word of God. It is the only answer for the times in which we are living.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, now more than ever, your Word is helping me breathe! In no way has it gotten choked out of my life experience. I am finding it once again to be my one true hope. Amen
