Really?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 24:42
They gave him a piece of broiled fish.

O-bservation:

This is the end of a long day. Jesus had risen from the dead and sort of disappeared for a period of time and then showed back up as two of his followers were walking on the road to the village of Emmaus. It was a seven-mile walk, and as they walked, they discussed the events of what had happened that weekend in Jerusalem, not knowing it was Jesus who was with them. When they got to Emmaus, they begged him to stay, so he did and ate with them. Then they recognized it was Jesus, and all of a sudden, he was gone! They headed back to Jerusalem and found the eleven disciples and others gathered in a room discussing the amazing news that Jesus, indeed, had risen. While they were talking, Jesus appeared to them in the room! After their initial shock and exuberant joy, Jesus, the Son of God, creator of heaven and earth, asked them for something to eat. The Bible says they gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he ate it.

A-pplication:

Whenever I read that Jesus asked his followers for something to eat after he had RISEN FROM THE DEAD, and all they gave him was a piece of broiled fish, I think to myself, “Really?” Like, that’s the best they could do? This is the Lord of Lords! Yet, this is a remarkable event. Why? Because Jesus ate the fish. He didn’t need five-star treatment because he was God. He could not be impressed with stuff, be it extravagant food presentations or wealthy people’s chariots. What impressed him was that they gave him what they had when he asked. “REALLY!” What will we do when he asks?

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

All I can say this AM is when you ask me for something, I want to give you what I have. I know you need nothing but always rejoice in my obedience. Help me to obey. Amen
