Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Luke 20:46

Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.

O-bservation:

These are Jesus’ words to His disciples as He observed the actions of the teachers of the law in His day. He said they wanted to be held in high esteem and honored at every point by the people who were under their jurisdiction. He also said they wanted the best seats in the house when church was in session.

A-pplication:

Before we go any further, this is not an indictment against honoring one another. But it is a warning by God himself for any leader today who craves honor and demands people to pay them the highest regard. It was Micah the prophet who said, “He hath shown you oh man what is good and what it is that he, the Lord requires of you. That is, to operate justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8, paraphrase). Anything beyond that bridges on covetousness and conceit. That was the problem in Jesus’ day with religious leaders. They craved honor but didn’t give honor. So when it comes to present-day “Pastors And Churches,” we must pray for them as never before. We must pray that God keeps them in the palm of His hand and that our spiritual leadership longs for nothing else but the approval of the Lord most high.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I want Your hand on my life. I desire humility and the touch of the Holy Spirit. I ask for my co-laborers in the work of God that we would not become like those You warned against in this passage but that we would long for You more than anything. Amen
