Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 19:45
When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling.
O-bservation:
Remember, Jesus was only a few days away from crucifixion, and it was Passover week in Jerusalem. Jewish people from near and far had come to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices at this holy season. Many foreigners would have been there as well. Unfortunately, the exchange of money to buy cattle and sheep for sacrifice had turned into a selling frenzy, and perhaps Jesus saw the lack of HOLINESS in the process. So He began to turn tables upside down.
A-pplication:
Does this mean we should never sell things in the foyers of our churches? I don’t think so. So many of the activities that cost extra are activities that benefit church life and a Holy lifestyle. Also, many of the books and Christian materials offered by guest ministers benefit the traveling minister financially so they can carry on their mobile ministry. They also benefit the purchaser in drawing them nearer to the Lord. The issue here pertains to this question. “Is a sense of Holiness being maintained in all of it?” If the answer is NO, then what Jesus would say is, “Bring Back The Holy.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
We know that the Word declares that judgment must begin at the house of the Lord. That’s what I believe You were doing that day in the temple. Help us remember that if our nation and the world have any kind of hope whatsoever, it must begin in the house of the Lord first! Amen
