S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Titus 2:2
Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
O-bservation:
St. Paul instructs his student and son in the faith, Titus, how to instruct “Older Gentlemen.” They should be taught to be balanced in their approach to living, men worthy of respect, self-controlled, and then something familiar. Paul said, “Older Gentlemen” in the church should be sound in FAITH, LOVE, and ENDURANCE (Patience).
A-pplication:
As an “Older Gentleman” myself, I thought about what these first converts in the newly founded New Testament church must have thought about younger men telling them how to live. In particular, the church that Titus was leading was in Crete, but it would have been true everywhere. Paul couldn’t be at these new churches every week. Then I thought that I spend lots of time listening to younger men than I am preaching and teaching the gospel of Jesus. I find that they view scripture better than I do in light of what is happening in the present age. Things have changed drastically since I was a young man in my country alone. We need young men and women to teach us older men and women how to live in the present age according to the word of God. At least that’s the view from this “Older Man.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m thinking of this passage of scripture I just wrote about. I want to be a man who is full of faith, love, and patience. I want to be balanced and self-controlled as well as respected. I know that if You help me in these matters, I can be a blessing to those who are younger. Amen
