Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
1 Samuel 9:27
As they were going down to the edge of the town, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us”—and the servant did so—“but you stay here for a while, so that I may give you a message from God.”
The day before this event, the prophet Samuel heard from the Lord that Saul, from the tribe of Benjamin, would be Israel’s first king. Samuel had Saul come for dinner that night. After dinner, Saul spent the night at Samuel’s house. At daybreak, the man of God called Saul to the rooftop, and they spoke awhile. As they headed downstairs, Samuel said to the future king, “Send your servant ahead, but you stay. I have a message from God for you!”
I’m sure that Saul was becoming well-known before this event occurred. He was definitely a man among men. Scripture tells us he stood head and shoulders above every other Israeli soldier. Some say Saul could have been seven feet tall! So he had a natural aura about him and was a compelling figure. Whoever his servant was, I’m sure Saul accepted him as more of a friend. They probably talked about everything young men talk about while on the road together. So what I’m saying is they were most likely close friends. HOWEVER, the man of God, Samuel, said to the future king, “Send your servant ahead, because what I’m about to tell you is from God himself. It’s for your ears only.” Remember on this brand-new morning, “Not Everyone Needs To Know” what God is doing in your life. When He speaks to you or me, we must obey. If we’ll keep quiet and obey what He tells us, in time, people will know what He told us to begin with, and we will not have said a word.
Help me this AM to obey Your word to my life. Help me hear Your voice and then obey. I don’t want to blab about what God has told me as much as I want people who observe my life to know that You have spoken. Amen
