Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Exodus 21:17
Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.
O-bservation:
After the Lord gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, Moses returned into a dark cloud to encounter the presence of the Lord. While there, God gave him even more laws for the people of Israel. This law was drastic in comparison to how things are done today. God said if a child curses their parents, they must be put to death!
A-pplication:
Wow! I say that because today, it’s almost nothing for a child in my country to curse their parents. The idea of respect has been thrown out of the window, so to speak. I’ve been told what some parents have been through at the hands of their children, and I’m appalled. When respect in the home is at an all-time low, no wonder the law is in such peril in our cities. In Moses’ day, a child would be put to death for cursing their parent. But, of course, we’re grateful for the grace of God through Jesus Christ. I wouldn’t for a minute vote for that law today. But when you see what the people of God used to hold up in Moses’ day, you can only say, “My How Things Have Changed.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m not hoping for death to children who disrespect their parents at this present age. However, I am asking for drastic measures from heaven to help us bring love and respect for parents back to our homes. Only You can help us now. Amen
