Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Genesis 5:1b
When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God.
O-bservation:
Here the scripture says that God created humankind at the beginning of human history, and when He did, they were “Made In God’s Image.” Notice they were not made so that someone would question where they came from or who their eternal father was. Instead, WE were “Made In God’s Image.”
A-pplication:
I know prophets of old give different versions in the Old and New Testaments about what God looks like. When Ezekiel had a vision of God in Ezekiel 1:26-28, he saw what looked like the image of a man. He spoke about what He looked like from the waist up. When John saw a vision of Jesus in Revelation 1:13-16, he saw what appeared to be the Son of Man. Also, he saw the man’s feet, chest, head, hair, eyes, hand, mouth, face and heard his voice. All these features are the features of humans as we know humankind to be. Remember, we were not made by God to look like an animal or an alien, which are so often promoted in today’s media as otherworldly living beings. NO! A thousand times NO! You and I were, and are, “Made In God’s Image.” Because of sin, we are limited in our ability to reach perfection. However, we have all of God’s traits in a limited way. Never forget, you and I are “Made In God’s Image!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today, I begin the day with joy, knowing that I have been “Made In God’s Image.” I’m not like other creatures. In a limited and finite way, I am made like You. I cherish that knowledge. Help me live with a humble heart and maximize the gifts You have given me. Amen
