Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 Corinthians 8:7
But since you excel in everything — in faith, and speech, and knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
O-bservation:
The diplomacy with which St. Paul encouraged the church at Corinth to be generous is a matter of sheer emotional intelligence. He lauded them for all the wonderful things they were known for, but then said, “Just One More Thing,” strive to excel in the grace of giving.
A-pplication:
The Apostle had commended the Church at Corinth for a number of excellent Christian traits that he had observed. He talked about the fact that they had excelled in faith. Faith is what built the New Testament church and is what keeps us thriving today. Then he said that this young church had excelled in speech, which means they were willing to contend for their faith. Then he said they excelled in knowledge. Knowledge builds our faith and our willingness to contend for what we believe. Paul said you’re so sincere, and you love like we have taught you to love. And then he says, “Just One More Thing,” make sure that you’re most known for your generosity. Could it be that the church at Corinth had been stingy? I doubt it. You can’t excel in the Christian basics and not be generous. But healthy reminders are always good!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me remember that generosity keeps your supply flowing to us. We are your divine supply to those all around us. Help me never to get stopped up. Help me instead to keep spiritual pipes clean and flowing to others. I want to excel in generosity! Amen
