Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Isaiah 28:16
So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”
O-bservation:
Over 700 hundred years before Jesus’ ministry on earth, Isaiah shared this prophecy. He said that God would lay a cornerstone (Jesus) in Zion (Jerusalem or the Church) and that whoever relies on His cornerstone would never be wrought with worry again.
A-pplication:
At that time in history, when building a strong edifice of any kind, the builder would look for just the right large stone that would be the first stone laid. It was known as the cornerstone. Upon that sure stone, the rest of the building would be made secure. If you’ve ever been to the Middle East, every building appears to be made out of stone. But here, Isaiah is speaking of the coming Church that would be all-encompassing as the new Zion. This, of course, was to be spiritual in nature. Even so, the structure would need a sure foundation. Make no mistake about it, “Jesus Is The Chief Cornerstone.” Even St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, referenced this truth in Romans 9:33. St. Peter also, the Apostle to the Jews, confirmed it in 1 Peter 2:4. Why is this important? Because you and I must never forget that the Church we are a part of is spiritual and will endure until the return of Jesus. He is the chief cornerstone, and because He is, we have nothing to be overly worried about. Panic is not part of our emotional makeup. Every time panic is at the door, our first thought must be, “Jesus Is The Chief Cornerstone” of my life.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m glad that wherever You are, there is light. I’m so blessed this AM that I am walking daily in Your light and have no need to hide in the dark corners of this life to avoid You. No! I want more of You, Jesus! I love Your light! Amen
