S-cripture:
Isaiah 59:21
“As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.
O-bservation:
This was God’s promise to the people of Israel still held captive in Babylon. At a time when there appeared to be no hope whatsoever, God used his prophet to proclaim his promise to his chosen people. I know that most Christ Followers don’t see the Jewish people today as holy and anointed unto the Lord. But that’s just a judgment call. No one can deny the fact that God has protected his chosen people down through the ages, and today they are once again thriving as a people and loyal as a people to their history.
A-pplication:
I’ve always taken God’s Old Testament promises to his people, the Jews, to be a foretaste of his promises to his New Testament Church today. My wife and I raised our children according to this passage, and I believe it with all of my heart. I believe that “It’s My Promise And Your Promise Too!” You see, the anointing of the Lord is upon you and me to live Godly lives and to speak his promises and good news to those around us. As our children observe our hearts for God and others, I believe they will embrace the same passion that drives you and me. They will, in turn, live this same passion out with their children. This gospel was given to us to be given to others. It’s the heart of our Father God that we obey. God will take it from there. That’s why I say, “It’s My Promise And Your Promise Too!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I’m so grateful to have been given this promise by you thousands of years ago. I’m sure that when Isaiah wrote it, he had no clue how far-reaching your promise would extend. Yet I’m glad he was faithful, and I’m glad you have kept your promise. Amen
