Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 21:33
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
O-bservation:
These are the words of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus. He had just finished a discourse on the signs of the end time, and as he was wrapping the discussion, he reminded his disciples that in the end, everything would be passed away, but one thing would endure. Jesus said, “My words will never pass away.”
A-pplication:
Many years ago, just after the fall of the communist regime in Romania, I had the privilege of preaching in the great hall of the people in Bucharest. It was in 1991, just a year and a half after the coup and murder of the nation’s communist leader, Nicolae Ceausescu. He was killed by his own military leaders on Christmas Day 1989. But it was reported to us while we were there that the last speech he gave before his communist leaders had been from the same lectern I was preaching from each night. He borrowed Voltaire’s line from hundreds of years earlier and said that “Within a hundred years the Christian bible will be forever destroyed and forgotten, while Communism will continue to unfurl like a beautiful flower.” Some weeks later, he was gunned down by his own leaders. Whenever I read these words of Jesus, spoken more than two thousand years ago, I always think of legends in their own minds like Voltaire and Ceausescu. When they talked about the destruction of the Word of God, all of the heavens screamed back, “It Will Never Happen!” Hallelujah!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
People have failed me. I’ve been let down by the best of them. But most of them are gone now, yet one thing remains. Your Word shall remain forevermore. Amen
