Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 6:19
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.
O-bservation:
Paul was talking to his church plant in Corinth. Sexual sin had become a problem in that young church, and the Apostle was making it known that their bodies were the temple of the Holy Spirit. He said, “You are not your own! You were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” In other words, my body has been purchased by God and “I Don’t Own Me.”
A-pplication:
I’m sure other religions don’t see life this way at all. I’m also sure that the big-name religions have reasons why sexual immorality is wrong. But, for the Christian, we know that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit where the Holy Spirit dwells. When we yield to sexual temptation, we take back the ownership of our bodies. The problem is, “I Don’t Own Me,” “You Don’t Own You,” and “We Don’t Own Us.” The act of sexual sin begins with thievery because this kind of sin forces God’s property into someone else’s hands. This breaks covenant and fellowship with God. Before any of that happens and the temptation takes over, stop and say, “I Don’t Own Me!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for Your sacrificial death on the cross for my sins. I’m so blessed this AM to know that Your Holy Spirit dwells within me. “I Don’t Own Me” and never will. Amen
