S-cripture:
Acts 6:15
All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
O-bservation:
Members of the “Synagogue of the Freedmen” in Jerusalem falsely accused the deacon known as Stephen, and they stirred up the people and teachers of the law. Consequently, they brought Stephen before the Jewish ruling council known as the Sanhedrin. When they looked upon him, his face looked like the face of an Angel.
A-pplication:
When I read this passage—and like many other verses in my Bible, I have it underlined—I always believe Stephen looked like an Angel because God truly anointed him in that hour. When the authorities asked Steven to give an account of himself, he preached one of the most thorough and anointed messages in all of the Holy Scriptures. However, when he finished, the authorities and crowds were so incensed that they had Steven stoned with rocks until he died. He became the first follower of Jesus to be martyred. Remember, he was anointed so that his face looked like that of an Angel. This story from the Bible reminds us that “Even If God Is With You,” carrying your cross for Jesus is not always easy.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today, as every day, I am resolved that “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I didn’t choose to follow You so my life would be easy. No! I chose You so my life would have meaning and purpose. Amen
