Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Acts 15:19
It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.
O-bservation:
This passage took place during the Council at Jerusalem. There had been sharp disagreement about Gentiles being forced to be circumcised to confirm their salvation. Peter argued that God had already given them the Holy Spirit baptism they too had received. At this point, James, the leader of the church at Jerusalem, stood and said, “Here is my decision, Don’t Make Faith So Difficult for these Gentile believers.”
A-pplication:
At this Council, there were some minor Jewish laws that they decided upon and then a huge one that said all immorality must cease. However, something as intense as circumcision was only highlighting the fact that the concept of GRACE was in peril. Thankfully, the issue was established on the side of GRACE at this council. With continuous layers of church rules comes a continual argument when the doors to eternal life are being offered. Jesus came and died a hideous death, was buried, and then risen back to life by the power of the Holy Spirit! With that sacrifice, Jesus himself was saying, “Don’t Make Faith So Difficult!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m so grateful that You made a way for me when there seemed to be no way. You paid the ultimate price so the doorway to salvation made Faith reasonable for me! Thank You. Amen
