Desperation Counts With God

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

2 Kings 19:19

Now Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.

Sennacherib, the Assyrian king, had sent his messengers to give a message to Hezekiah, the King of Judah. The message was a threat against God himself. He ridiculed Hezekiah and the armies of Judah and demanded that they surrender before Sennacherib would come with his soldiers to destroy the people of God. This prayer is the conclusion of Hezekiah’s prayer to God Almighty.

In my life, through the years, I cannot count the number of times I have read Sennacherib’s threats and Hezekiah’s desperate prayer to the Lord God Almighty. It is an arrogant heathen man laughing in the face of and daring the power and existence of our great God. Something wells up inside of me, holy anger, if you will, against the arrogance of the devil and his hoards. I am always so impressed that after Hezekiah heard the report of Sennacherib’s threats, he did not convene a meeting with his war council. Instead, he cried to God for help in desperation. Sennacherib, like Goliath before him, had not read his history concerning the God of Israel. And when God’s man cried out in desperation to the Lord for help. God responded. In the night, God sent one angel and killed one hundred and eighty-five thousand Assyrian soldiers. In the morning, Sennacherib retreated to Nineveh. Eventually, his own sons killed him with swords while he prayed to his piece of stone god. I’d say, “Desperation Counts With God!”

Dear Jesus,

This AM I’m DESPERATE FOR YOU! I need You now more than ever before in my life. I’m tempted daily by Satan himself to believe that any success I’ve achieved is of my own doing. I know that is a lie from hell’s pit. I need you, my Lord, now more than when I was young and naive. I’m desperate! Please, please, Jesus! Amen
