Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 4:21
He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
O-bservation:
Jesus had been tested by the enemy in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights. After passing that test with the help of God’s written word, the devil left him. His next stop was back home in Nazareth. Upon entering the synagogue, the crowds were anxious to hear his words. After reading the passage from Isaiah 61:1,2 which had been written approximately 700 years earlier he sat down in the synagogue looked at the people assembled there and said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
A-pplication:
“Can You Imagine,” being one of the listeners in the temple that day, when the young man Jesus said he was the answer to Isaiah’s 700-year-old prophecy? A few verses down the text, Jesus said, “No prophet is accepted in his hometown!” But I’m trying to put this passage in context, and I’m not sure if I had been sitting in that temple that day that I would have believed him either. John, the gospel writer, said, “He came to that which was HIS OWN, but his own did not receive him.” How can you be so impressed with your own neighbor that you can say, “You know I believe he is the Son of God?” Sure the people were wrong, but “Can You Imagine” being them that day? They loved him, they wanted him to win, but the Son of God? Remember these words this AM. If it was then, or it is now, it still takes FAITH to accept Jesus as the Son of God. Back to John, the gospel writer, he continued his words in the same passage I wrote earlier and closed by saying, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12) “Can You Imagine” such a gift?
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Many years ago I came to believe that you are the Son of the living God. That’s when I received you as my personal Lord and Savior. Indeed it is the greatest gift I have ever been given. Amen
